KS3 Art & Design

In Art and Design we develop the skills, which enable students to record and express their feelings, ideas and observations.

In Art and Design, students explore visual, tactile and other sensory experiences to communicate ideas and meanings. They work with traditional and new media, developing confidence, competence, imagination and creativity. They learn to appreciate and value images across times and cultures, and to understand the contexts in which they were made. In Art and Design students reflect critically on their own and other people’s work, judging quality, value and meaning. They learn to think and act as artists, craftspeople and designers, working creatively and intelligently. They develop an appreciation of art, craft and design, and its role in the creative and cultural industries that enrich their lives.

Within the department projects are planned to conform to the aims and objectives as outlined, this ensures that all areas are being covered in the key stage and that progression and continuity can be purposefully built in. Within this framework, the actual content of each project duration must be flexible in order to allow the department to respond to changing needs and circumstances.
