On a damp  November Tuesday, twelve of our local schools descended on Lightwater Country Park to compete in the North West Surrey Inter-Schools Team Cross-Country Championships.

As ever, the standard was high with schools fielding athletes who regularly turn out for clubs and County. Races are competed for in the following categories, Year 7, Year 8. Year 9, and Years 10/11 for both boys and girls.

First event was the girls Year 7. This for us was definitely going into the unknown, given that at this stage we had no idea of the strengths of other teams. Gordon's had the advantage of having our Inter-House event prior to the districts. This allowed us to work out our strongest team. It certainly paid off as the girls finished as  impressive winners. First in for Gordon's was Joanna Hay who came in at third individual place.

The Year 8 girls were always up against it with some very strong teams to compete against. Amy Dove, who is the current Surrey County Schools champion led the way finishing as individual winner with the remainder of the team working extremely hard to finish as runners-up in the team event.

The Year 9's also had a hard fought race which was touch and go throughout. However their grit and determination secured them first place in the team championships. To top that event, Abi White once again finished as District Individual Champion.

The Year 10/11 girls event turned out to be a superb demonstration of team running by our girls. Sophie Dove, who was competing against runners a year her senior finished in fourth position, pushing the three girls in front, hard all of the way. The remainder of the team all came in in the top 15 positions, eventually securing first place as a team.

The boys were always up against it with some very strong runners spread around the district. The effort and determination was always there but unfortunately they were beaten by stronger teams on the day. With an input of cardio-vascular training for the boys in preparation for the athletics season I feel sure that by next year we  can move forward.

We now look forward to the County Inter-District Championships  where we will hopefully have strong representation.
