Academic Information

The minimum academic requirements to join Gordon's School Sixth Form in 2024 to study A levels are the following or equivalent:

A minimum of 5 GCSEs grades 9-5 including at least a grade 5 in GCSE English and Mathematics

AND

The grade criteria for individual subjects as outlined in the Gordon's Sixth Form Options booklet .

Gordon’s School Sixth Form students study 3 A Levels.
Please see below table for option blocks and courses available. You may only select one course from each column.

* If you wish to study Further Maths, (see subsidiary subjects) you MUST also take A level Maths from block A and are recommended to take 2 further subjects (ie 4 A levels in total). You will not be able to drop one subject at the end of year 12.

Subsidiary Subjects


Alongside the 3 chosen A levels, students will be required to select a further subsidiary subject to be studied in Year 12 only. (With the exception of Further Maths and DiSE which are studied for 2 years)
Please indicate which subsidiary subject you would consider taking alongside your 3 A levels. It is envisaged that the majority of students will undertake the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) or STEM Gold award which provide a good preparation for university.
Please indicate up to 3 preferences as subsidiary courses depend upon the class numbers and timetable. They are therefore not guaranteed. (Final subsidiary subjects will be confirmed after results.

2. We welcome applications for Residential Boarding places with a strong 'need to board'. Parents who are applying for a boarding place are asked to give additional information in Section 3, or by covering letter, saying why there is a need for their child to board.

3. Any offer and subsequent entry to Gordon's School to study a Sixth Form course will always be subject to the applicant meeting the published minimum entry requirements.
