Lamda

LAMDA is continually growing at Gordon’s. This year 75 per cent of students passed with Distinction and 25 per cent with a Merit. The number of students taking exams has more than doubled from 20 students last year to 41 in the academic year 2022-23.

LAMDA examinations are internationally recognised qualifications that provide young people with the opportunity to improve self-expression, self-assurance and, most importantly, have fun. We offer lessons to all year groups in Acting, Devising Drama, Speaking Verse and Prose, Reading for Performance and Speaking in Public. We also offer the Level 3 Shakespeare Syllabus. The classes help students develop their confidence and encourage creativity and the ability to ‘think on your feet’.

The lessons are run on a rota basis during the school day or will take place during ‘study periods’ for students in the Sixth Form. Level 3 qualifications from LAMDA (Grade 6 and above) offer valuable UCAS points which students can use towards their university entry requirements.

Eddie the Eagle Edwards, the first competitor to represent Great Britain in the Olympic Ski Jumping for 50 years, landed as the Guest of Honour in the Boarding Schools Association Public Speaking Festival, hosted by Gordon’s.

Mr Edwards, who rose to international fame when he took part in the Calgary Winter Olympics in 1988, spoke of his determination to reach the Olympic Games.

After his talk, it was the turn of the students with Gordon’s competing with students from Cranleigh; Reddam House and LVS.

Topics ranged from ‘Is Temporary Insanity an Excuse for Murder’ to ‘The benefits of Introversion – Let’s Celebrate the Difference’ and the event saw some 30 students giving individual prepared speeches and team presentations. Amirah Deji won the Seniors Individual Prepared Speech Award.
