Gordon’s School have just completed another fantastic ski trip to Obertauern during December, 2011. The party consisted of 42 pupils and 7 staff, and all of the ski party were anticipating if there was going to be any snow! However, we were extremely lucky and that is why we have chosen this resort for the last 5 years because of the guaranteed snow as the resort is very high.
The luxury coach arrived around two hours after school finished on the 8th December, and we began our 16 hour journey to Austria. The drivers were great and they were very keen on arriving at the resort early, so we made it in good time. After settling into the Felseralm Hotel, we had snowmen competitions and a quiz in the evening.
The pupils started their first day of six skiing on the Saturday. All four groups were led by experienced instructors and all the groups were of similar ability and size. All pupils had five hours of tuition per day. On the final day there were slalom race competitions within each group. Overall, the fastest boy was Miles Bond (Year 9) and the fastest girl was Dani Hay (Year 11). All the pupils really enjoyed their instructors and their lesson.
Evening entertainment varied from swimming, quizzes, karoke, ten pin bowling and shopping in the Christmas Markets in Salzburg.
On numerous occasions I was told how well behaved our pupils were, and what a credit they were to the school. The trip was again a success and this is due to the pupils, but also to the six staff members who assisted me on this trip.
