Post-16 study involves a great deal of independent student work outside the timetabled lessons. Students are expected to spend a minimum of five hours every week for each subject on research and homework tasks.
Organising their time effectively is extremely important and students must ensure that other activities, such as jobs out of school, are undertaken sensibly. Wider reading and independent study are crucial at this stage.
To help with the organisation of their time each sixth former is issued with a planner, which acts as a contact between student, teacher and parent. Students must ensure all work is written down in their planner which parents sign every week. Inside the planner there are individual targets for each subject and next step advice for all students to further their learning.
Private study rooms are provided for all Sixth Formers and are furnished with computers, including full internet access. Another location for private study is the school library which gives sixth formers the opportunity to work in smaller groups during their study periods and also contains computers.
