Over the last year the old science block, the second floor of which was built by the Gordon Boys in 1951, has been totally gutted and refurbished. It is effectively now a new building and has been transformed into the Gordon's Music and Drama Centre. The building includes four fully equipped rooms for teaching music and drama, six music practice rooms, an ICT room, and extensive storage accommodation.
The new Music and Drama Centre was officially opened by HRH The Earl of Wessex in September.
Over sixty guests attended, including Sarah Goad - Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Sally Varah - High Sheriff, Angela Fraser - Chairman of Surrey County Council, and Councillor Whittart - Mayor of Surrey Heath.
All guests had a tour of the building, led by sixth form students. There was a very positive atmosphere, with many comments about the quality of the building and the state of the art equipment.
Afterwards, guests were entertained by pupils with several contrasting items of music. For once the Pipes & Drums did not steal the show. That accolade, without doubt, went to 12 year old Oliver Joseph who sang "Any Dream Will Do'' to rapturous applause. Prince Edward came across superbly well and his speech was personal to Gordon's and very funny. The headmaster is particularly grateful to Peter Wynter Bee who, with his prodigious energy and contacts, raised a great deal of money, without which the Music and Drama Centre could not have been built.
