Geography

The Geography Department prides itself on making geography both interesting and relevant to matters that relate to us today. We give our students the opportunity to question, discuss and debate various topics. We also offer fieldwork visits which we feel are a very important part of the learning experience.

The Geography Department is well run and successful with very good results. It is a popular subject with good recruitment from Year 9 to GCSE and again to A-Level. Geography continues to be amongst the most popular AS/A2 option at Gordon’s School. Our high standards and excellent results have helped our students to gain entry to their first choice university on numerous occasions. Some of our geographers have gone on to do fieldwork in very exotic locations, such as Ecuador, China and Australia.

Our classes are in mixed ability groups throughout the school. The average class size in GCSE is 22 and 12 in A-Level. At the moment, we run 3 groups in GCSE and 2 groups at A-Level.

As international links become closer, easier and faster, we need more than ever to understand the geography of our world. At Gordon’s, we believe that geography offers the students opportunities by teaching a wide variety of skills that employers require.

We are members of The Prince’s Teaching Institute. The exam board we use for GCSE and A-Level is AQA (in GCSE – Spec A).
