Private Tour of Royal Holloway, University of London
Date: Sunday 9th April 2017
Time: 11am to 3pm
We have been lucky to secure a private guided tour of Royal Holloway College which was founded by two social pioneers. Elizabeth Jesser Reid founded Bedford College in 1849 and Thomas Holloway, inspired by his wife Jane, founded Royal Holloway College. He built the stunning Founder's building, which was opened in 1886 by Queen Victoria. Both colleges were among the very first institutions in the UK to give women access to higher education. In 1900, the colleges were admitted to the University of London and merged in 1985 to form what is today known as Royal Holloway, University of London.
Our tour will take place on Sunday 9th April, in the morning we will visit the Founder’s Building: Chapel, North Quad, Founder’s Dining Hall, South Quad, Founder’s Library, Victorian Corridor. This will be followed by a sandwich lunch in the Picture Gallery. After lunch there will be a talk on the paintings which can be found in the Picture Gallery with free time afterwards to explore. The Royal Holloway Art Collections include some of the 19th century's most iconic works of art, the picture gallery is 39th in the Telegraph's Secret Britain: 50 hidden gems to seek out this summer.
