Sixth Form Admissions Policy for Gordon’s School 2012-13

Gordon’s School offers a range of GCE AS and A2 courses, which require certain minimum grades at GCSE. Our policy is to ensure that all students accepted into the Sixth Form are placed on appropriate courses where they are likely to succeed.

As a school we aim to develop the leadership potential of all students through involvement in whole school activities. The Sixth Form at Gordon’s is very high achieving and virtually every student goes on to university.

Application Procedure

External applicants and Year 11 pupils in the school are required to complete and return a Gordon’s School application form. The deadline for returning external application forms is March of the year of entry. Applicants must achieve the Minimum Qualifying Standard for the subjects they wish to pursue in order to take a place in the Sixth Form.

Gordon students and external candidates are invited to attend the Sixth Form Evening in October with their parents. During the evening the Head Teacher and Head of Sixth Form present the courses available, the qualifications required to be offered a place and the commitment and standards expected from the Sixth Form students. External candidates are also invited to tour the school and discuss subject choices during the school day.

Entry Requirements

Gordon’s School Sixth Form offers AS and A2 level subjects only; we do not offer vocational courses or diplomas.

The academic requirements for admission to the Sixth Form are:

1. A minimum of five GCSE grades A* to C; plus
2. At least a GCSE grade B in the subjects to be taken at AS Level

All students at Gordon’s School are expected to have a strong work ethic and Sixth Form students are regarded as positive role models contributing to the high standards of behaviour in the whole school. They are given privileges and responsibilities reflecting their age and standing in the school.

Sixth formers are not required to wear normal school uniform. However, dress is expected to be smart in line with the standards and reputation of Gordon’s.

Oversubscription Criteria

In the event of a course being oversubscribed the following oversubscription criteria will be applied in order of priority:

1. Looked After Children.
2. Applications from internal candidates who are predicted to meet the academic requirements.
3. Applications from students who are expected to have siblings in the school, at the time of admission, and who meet or, who are predicted to meet, the academic requirements.
