Change4life Adventurous Festival

On Wednesday 2nd May 2012, Mrs Staton took 17 leaders who are doing the Sports Leadership course at Gordon’s School to Holy Trinity Primary school to run a Change4life Adventurous Festival.
Change4life is a government initiative to get less active children more excited about physical activity. We were given bags full of equipment by the government with the aim of going into primary schools and getting Year 3 and Year 4 pupils more active.

Holy Trinity chose the adventurous bag of equipment and they will continue to run a regular club after the festival.

The young leaders had been planning for the festival for a few weeks. Activities included Team challenges, Personal Survival and treasure finding!

The 120 Year 3 and Year 4 pupils were split into 4 countries and had a go at 4 adventurous activities each. The Gordon’s leaders were brilliant with the younger pupils and demonstrated excellent leadership qualities.

It was a successful festival and we even managed to dodge the rain for the afternoon!

Year 13 Prepare for cooking at University

The Year 13 students at Gordon’s School are being given the opportunity to be involved in basic cooking lessons in the hope of equipping them for life away from home. Topics covered will include wise shopping on a budget, essential equipment, nutritional food choices and basic food preparation skills. Over the coming term we will make Spicy Potato Wedges, Quesadillas, Stir-fry, Spaghetti Bolognese, Chicken Pesto Pasta, Risotto, Paella, Fruit Crumble and Flapjack. Students who are interested in attending the lessons should see Mrs King or Mrs MacLean. The Sixth Form students are also welcome to attend P6 activities on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday to further develop their cooking skills.

Gordon's School leads the way at Holy Trinity!

On Wednesday 11th January 2012, 18 students from Year 11 and 12 went to Holy Trinity Church of England School in West End for a Speed Stacking Competition.

The students went into the Year 4 classes and led the pupils in learning the skill of stacking cup into towers and down again.

They warmed the pupils up with games and demonstrated how to build the 3-3-3 tower that they were going to build as part of a competition.

Once all the Year 4 pupils had practiced they could then visit a timing desk where the Leadership students showed them how to use the timing mats and let them have 4 attempts at recording the fastest stacking times. The pupils at Holy Trinity are in 4 houses (Gordon's, Brunel, Shaftsbury & Stanley) which they were competing in.

At the end of the competition the Gordon's School Leaders added up all the times to get an average for each house and then they awarded certificates to the fastest girl and boy and the overall fastest house which turned out to be Gordon's!

Excellent leadership by the Gordon's students made it a very successful Speed Stacking Competition.

We expect our students to take every opportunity to ensure that at the end of their Sixth Form studies they fulfil their academic potential and develop into confident, well-rounded young people, ready to take their place in the world.
