Creative Arts

Gordon's Good to Great Creative Arts allows our talented art, drama and music students to improve their skills outside the classroom through additional support and guidance.

We know that for some students they just love participating in the arts as a hobby. For others, however there will be a passion which they wish to follow beyond Gordon's. Mentoring allows us to set up opportunities for students whilst still at school such as county ensembles, auditions for national companies and entries to national competition.

We have a huge range of inclusive activities available for all our wonderfully creative students to access. The Good to Great identified groups are for students who really want to specialise and expand their knowledge and learning in a particular art form.

Our Creative Arts identified groups currently consist of:

Semper Fidelis Singers who recently performed their own lunchtime concert in London and appear on our very own Music CD. Semper Fidelis Singers have enjoyed working this year with Choral Animator and Vocal Coach Charles MacDougall and are looking forward to further public performances, under the guidance of Mrs Medlar and a visiting vocal coach from Voices Foundation. The choir recently won the Hydn Cup for mixed voices at the Godalming Music Festival for the third year in a row.

Jazz Ensemble

Steve Hill (West End Musical Director) leads our talented musicians as they learn the essentials of jazz in these evening masterclasses.

Drama Theatre Company

Our Year 8 and 9 Drama Theatre Company rehearse weekly for their termly public performances. They are also inspired by our KS4 & 5 drama students and the Drama Ambassadors, who produce and direct their own events. Our first ever 'Move it, Say it, Sing it' event was a huge success in July with various performances from students of all ages. Our Key Stage 4 and 5 students worked with the world renowned Frantic Assembly performing their devised work alongside self-penned monologues and duologues from some of our younger drama students.

Art and Photography – Inspiring Artists

Our incredible art and photography students create outstanding pieces that we are proud to exhibit and sell at our annual Summer Arts Exhibition. Their most recent piece of art is on display in school as you enter the school grounds via the footbridge. Keep an eye out for the wonderful mural of General Gordon and our school characteristics.

Pipes and Drums

Our Pipes and Drums students gather weekly in the mornings, afternoons and at weekends to fine tune their skills. Our students will also be taking part in a National Cadet Piping & Drumming Centre masterclass over a weekend here at school. The students proudly represented the school at the “Lest We Forget’ Memorial Concert at the Genting Arena, Birmingham in November.
